In 1850, miles of new cave were discovered in Wyandotte Cave.  Next to Mammoth Cave, Wyandotte became the second largest cave in the world with 23 1/2 miles charted on maps.

Wyandotte rivaled Mammoth Cave in natural wonders with huge passages and spectacular cave formations situated in giant rooms.  It became the third oldest continuously operated commercial cave in America; with wild and rugged underground places...the lair of bandits and counterfeiters...onion speculators...pioneer adventures...of wind storms and ghost.
